Make a Monster

Though this video tutorial is rather confusing, you might glean some helpful tips from it and it's fun to watch.

I'm just about to make a new batch of sock critters. One is a custom order for a pirate lemur. Still figuring out how I'm going to pull that one off. I found the perfect orange and white striped socks but I could only find 3 and the store wouldn't sell me the singleton claiming the other one had to be in the store somewhere. So I don't have enough socks to make the tail yet.

I also bought a new bag of polyfil yesterday for the socks while it was on sale at Joann's.

The week sure went by quick. I had a lot more planned but didn't have the energy to do it. My hands are still sore from woodcarving, and so I've had to lay off the knitting and crocheting. I'm looking forward to the weekend. My daughter may visit. We'll see.

I should write a book and call it the Secret Life of Socks. It will feature all my quirky sock critters.

My friend NervousOnion makes really cool sock critters too in a style completely different than my own. It's amazing how many people can take the same basic idea, and push it in all new directions. Got socks? Hide them from us or we'll turn them into something bizarre.

Sock-O-Saurus Rex

My first sock dinosaur. I call him Sock-o-saurus Dex. 

I called this dinosaur Sock-o-saurus Rex and gifted it to my son-in-law. I didn't know if he'd like it or not but he loved it.

The sox on this one say 'boys stink'. The hat is removeable. This was the first one I finished for the duel. 

I challenged another sock maker to a duel to see who could make five sock critters first before a deadline on Friday at midnight. Thursday, just after midnight, I finished my last one and posted it to the tribe. Not 12 minutes later she posted hers! I'd assumed she was long ago in bed. I realized she must have stayed up til 3 AM her time finishing hers. Glad I went ahead and put the photos up, since I almost waited until morning. It was a close race. Anyway, here are photos of the five I made.
